Asbestos abatement and disposal

We have had trained specialist staff working in the abatement of hard asbestos for twelve years.

This applies to exterior façades, roofs, hall panelling, pipes, ventilation systems, flange gaskets and asbestos-containing Eternit panels.
Asbestos abatement in accordance with TRGS 519
The special safety measures to be taken for the stripping, abatement and maintenance of asbestos and asbestos-containing materials, and their disposal, are defined in TRGS 519 (Technische Regeln für Gefahrstoffe – Asbest [Technical Rules for Hazardous Materials - Asbestos]).

Up until 20 years ago, asbestos was the most commonly used insulation material for fireproofing; Asbestos was widely employed as a roofing material and as cladding for facades (asbestos cement such as Eternit). Since the start of the eighties there has been a reaction to the detrimental effect of asbestos fibres on health. The hazardous asbestos fibres are released as a result of wear and tear to the materials. The asbestos fibres released in the course of stripping, abatement and disposal require special safety measures for the protection of the workforce and the environment, such as protective suits, enclosures, extractor devices and wetting.

Precautionary occupational medical examinations offer additional safety for the workforce.

According to TRGS 519, a work schedule is to be prepared and submitted to the competent authority before work is started. This contains:

- the material composition and
  properties of the asbestos-containing
  hazardous substances
- the timeframe of the work
- the location and nature of its execution
- the number of workers
- a description of the working process
- details of the safety measures and
  personal safety equipment
- measures or devices for the protection
  and decontamination of the workers
who work in the danger zone
- certification of the required, proper
  disposal (manner and location)

Consequently, asbestos abatement cannot be carried out by just anyone. The company must certify its technical competence and that of its staff. Our workers acquire the necessary expertise in the handling of asbestos by completing officially recognised courses.

Removal and disposal of
artificial mineral fibres (KMF)
in accordance with TRGS 521

Safety measures are necessary when removing and disposing of artificial mineral fibres (KMF) and fibrous dusts, in order to prevent any release of fibres and hence any risks to people and the environment.

This waste is considered to be particularly in need of monitoring. TRGS 521 describes technical and organisational measures for dismantling and depositing.

We have the corresponding permits.

Artificial mineral fibres (KMF) are usually used for sound and heat insulation and fireproofing in buildings, in the form of mineral cotton, e.g. in

- Façades
- Interior walls/lightweight fibreboard walls
- Acoustic ceilings
- Footfall sound insulation
- Mineral-fibre-containing plaster
- Floors in loft conversions
- Pipe insulation
- Heat insulation in roller shutter boxes
- Pipe insulation
- Injected insulation
